School bookings only. Several workshops are run from this space. Local History (KS2) Look at how Bolton grew from a small market town into a giant of the Industrial Revolution, learn about Samuel Crompton and Richard Arkwright and how the town changed post 1948 when workers were invited to come to Bolton from overseas to support the Cotton Industry in the town. Childhood in Bolton (KS1) An introduction to Local History for young children. We look at what life was like in Bolton at the turn of the century, at the height of Victorian era. Children get to explore the gallery and play with a number of old toys and games. Samuel Crompton (KS1) Find out more about Samuel Crompton, what life was like when he was alive, including the clothes worn by children and see his invention The Spinning Mule. Learn more about the processes involved in spinning and even give carding a go. Dinosaur Discovery (KS1) Travel back in time to the time of the Dinosaurs, look at some real dinosaur bones and try to identify which dinosaur they came from, create your own dinosaur and listen to a dino themed story. Tropical Rainforest (KS2) Learn about the Rainforest Canopy and the animals that live there, handle live insects and spend time in our Aquarium learning about the Rainforest River habitats and conservation. Please note all workshops should last approximately 1.5 hours and are scheduled to start at 10am for a morning session and 1pm for an afternoon session but these times can be negotiated, please let us know at the time of booking if you would prefer a different start time.
